Profile on the the Swedish digital artist Tobias Bernstrup, who merged digital art, fetish aesthetics, and synth-pop performance into a singular practice that blurred the lines between avatar and artist. By repurposing video-game engines to build immersive, uncanny worlds — and then stepping inside them onstage — he collapsed the gap between simulation and self. "Onstage, Tobias is behaving like an android, neither man nor woman,” Parisian curator Jerome Sans explained. “He really becomes one of the characters in his videos.”
