At a time when government and corporate support becomes ever-more constrained by shrinking budgets and political issues, my work with private foundations and nonprofits - sometimes pro bono, sometimes paid - focuses on the cultural impact coming from the private sector.
While I do advise on tactical issues such as communications, extending networks, creating prizes and running residencies, the core of my work with foundations tends to be on the strategic level. Helping to clarify mission, strengthen governance, and amplify initiatives, I have collaborated with internal teams to design programs that support artists, foster innovation, and expand access to culture across broader communities.
The question I'm always asking is not, ‘Are we doing good things with the money being spent?’ but rather, ‘Are we achieving the maximum impact for the mission you set, with the resources you’ve devoted?’
