Synopsis
Review of the debut edition of Art Basel Miami Beach. My first night in Miami I wound up at the home of Carlos and Rosa de la Cruz, the first encounter with Miami's partons throwing open their homes to the global artworld. In a sense, the art world had been waiting for that party for almost two years. Business was slow. “You could throw a stone from my booth without hitting a dealer who’s sold anything,” moaned one British dealer on the first full day of business. It got better the next year and the rest is history.
