Synopsis
Short piece on how, for the office-furniture titan Steelcase, reinvention meant a shift from selling desks to designing entire office ecologies. "They said wireless technology would mean more wires," recalled Steelcases's Jack Tanis, "so we had to figure out a way around cable gridlock, which meant creating extensive cavities for cables." The result wasn’t just furniture—it was “Space Ware,” a phsyical operating system for an economy in perpetual beta.
