Synopsis
My first Arts Radar column for Business of Fashion, in which I examine Louis Vuitton’s revival of its 2003-2013 Takashi Murakami campaigns - a calculated return to the project that still defines the high-water mark for art-fashion collabs. Why? Because while many such ventures dilute both brand and artist, Murakami’s aesthetic vocabulary - grounded in Japanese commercial culture - protected his authenticy while creating new energy, and $300M in sales the first year, for the heritage brand.
