Synopsis
In an unprecedented act of trust on the part of Art Basel, the Art Newspaper staff was allowed to wander among packing cases and frantic dealers inside the Miami Beach Convention Center. I delivered a chronological piece, stretched over 30 hours during the two days before the fair opened. My favorite quote comes from Kenny Schachter, describing his igloo booth by Vito Acconci. "The idea is to create a new type of structure that intervenes in the fair space. But it's also a kind of social engineering because you have to traverse the entire structure just to pass by the booth... Sometimes I subvert myself.”
