Synopsis
My review of South African video artist Candice Breitz's cinema-centered show at the old Max Hetzler space in a railroad-viaduct-turned-gallery near Berghain. Breitz cut and reassembled parts of movie scenes featuring Meg Ryan, Julia Roberts, Neve Campbell, Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Lopez and Reese Witherspoon to turn them into endless herky jerky and narratively disjointed monologues. It was totally captivating, and also intense to sit through.
