Synopsis
Feature length preview of the 2003 Art Basel in Basel week, with great photographs by Jessica Craig-Martin. The fair had just reduced the number of VIP cards by 25 percent. As fair director Sam Keller (my predecessor) explained, “It had gotten overhyped. I think we in the art world wanted to be popular with a broader public. But now we’re all starting to wonder if we’ve turned into too much of a social scene.” 10 years later, I did the same thing with VIP cards. 20 years later, we're all still wondering about that question that Keller posed.
